AIPIO INITIATIVES
Communities of Practice (CoP)
The intelligence landscape in Australia is evolving to include emerging domains of practice alongside traditional domains of practice. AIPIO has established communities of practice (CoP) – initially three – to foster the professional development of these emerging domains of intelligence practice.
AIPIO believes that we can strengthen the resilience of the national intelligence enterprise in Australia by integrating traditional and emerging domains of intelligence practice, especially through harmonising intelligence standards and practices across the wider intelligence workforce.
Emerging Intelligence CoP
The Emerging Intelligence Professionals CoP is concerned with the needs, concerns, and aspirations of both students of intelligence and related studies, as well as experienced practitioners from other disciplines seeking an intelligence career. The Convenors of this CoP are Russell Metge (Russell.metge@aipio.asn.au) and Cassandra Nicholson (Cassandra.nicholson@aipio.asn.au)
Cyber Intelligence CoP
The Cyber Intelligence CoP is concerned with tradecraft that involves collecting information in cyberspace, enabling information processing activities, thereby identifying potential adversaries and their capabilities, intent, and motivation. The Convenors of this CoP are Andre Harrington (act.rep5@aipio.asn.au).
Financial Intelligence CoP
The Financial Intelligence CoP aims to foster a collaborative environment where agencies, organisations, and intelligence practitioners can come together to explore FinInt issues, driving thought leadership, research, production, and the integration of FinInt in both the present and future. The CoP will collaborate across practice domains in government and the private sector, including with the wider Australian national intelligence community. The Convenor of this CoP is Mark Webster (Mark.webster@aipio.asn.au).
Security Intelligence CoP
The Security Intelligence CoP is creating a collaborative space for agencies, organisations and practitioners with a particular interest in security intelligence to come together to explore issues within the domain for thought leadership, knowledge sharing, research and production in unclassified, non-operational settings. The Convenor for this CoP is Sharon Huey (Sharon.huey@aipio.asn.au).
Corrections Intelligence CoP
The Corrections Intelligence CoP is concerned with supporting intelligence practitioners in the corrections and detention environments to collaborate in an unclassified forum to share best practice research, methodologies and information technology advancements, including adaptation of intelligence practice to human rights and other legislative reforms. The Convenor of this CoP is Helen Glazebrook CF. (Helen.glazebrook@aipio.asn.au)
Regulatory Intelligence CoP
The Regulatory Intelligence CoP is concerned with building and improving intelligence practices in the regulatory and compliance environment. The Convenor of this CoP is Neil Quarmby (secretary@aipio.asn.au).
The Strategic Intelligence CoP
The Strategic Intelligence CoP is creating a collaborative space for thought leadership, knowledge sharing, research and production in unclassified, non-operational settings where agencies, organisations and practitioners can meet to discuss current and emerging issues in strategic intelligence and intelligence analysis. The Convenor for this CoP is Janet Evans (Janet.evans@aipio.asn.au).
The Emerging Female Leaders in Intelligence CoP
The Emerging Female Leaders in Intelligence CoP is concerned with supporting female leaders in intelligence across all domains of practice. The EFLI CoP is an unclassified forum for practitioners, agencies, and organisations to share insights, best practice research, methodologies, and information technology advancements, as well as other matters relevant to their experiences in their career journey. The EFLI CoP emerges from a collaborative workshop led by AIPIO and Kearney specifically for emerging female intelligence leaders and provides an ongoing network where thought leadership, research, production, and knowledge sharing can be explored. The Convenors for this CoP are Kylie Flower (Kylie.flower@aipio.asn.au).
What happens in a CoP?
Each CoP will maintain an active discussion forum, curate pertinent resources, promote learning, and meet periodically for professional networking arranged through the AIPIO Regional Representatives Network and the AIPIO Major Events Team.
Participation in CoP is open to both AIPIO members and non-members, at no cost. AIPIO members will have access to additional resources in the Members-Only area of this website. All participation in CoP is governed by a Code of Conduct explaining appropriate online behaviour.
